One of the richest of China's new breed of entrepreneurs, Mr. Zhao Zhang Guang, claims he has saved face for 5 million Chinese and more than 1 million Japanese - by restoring their hair.
Now Australia is the next target for the man known throughout China as the 101 Hair Oil King.
He is flying to Melbourne next month to investigate the possibility of establishing a factory there, both for exports and for what he sees as a promising follicularly challenged domestic market.
Mr. Zhao, who at 55 years of age sports a luxuriant head of hair (jet black to match his Audi and Mercedes limousines), is now a substantial part of the Chinese establishment: a member of the National People's Congress, which has just finished sitting in Beijing. On his office wall is a photo taken with a smiling Premier, Mr. Li Peng.
Mr. Zhao is a big exporter of claimed cure for acne as well as for baldness, and of "nourishing shampoos." They go to the rest of Asia and southern Europe, especially Greece and Turkey, and to the Arab world. An Australian factory would be his first outside China.
Although he did not attend university, his five children are all graduates. Like most wealthy Chinese he loves karaoke, and performs with extrovert gusto after banquets at the 400-seat Cantonese restaurant he owns next to his factory on the north-east outskirts of Beijing.
He began his working life as a bookkeeper, becoming a "barefoot doctor" during the Cultural Revolution of the '60s and '70s.
He says he cured four girls of baldness - Western medicines had failed them - using an improvised lotion containing traditional herbal ingredients. (continue....)
